We’re all works in progress and so is this little website, so thank you for being here.
I’m Whitney, a 40-something licensed professional counselor providing online counseling throughout Colorado (and some international countries) and home-based counseling in the lovely San Luis Valley, Colorado. My pronouns are she, her, and hers.
I came into this career later than some. Prior to becoming a counselor I worked in animal rescue and childcare and freelance writing and taught yoga (and other odd and sometimes awful jobs) while raising three kids on my own and putting myself through school. I eventually (finally!) finished up school in my mid-thirties with a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Counseling and went on to work as a counselor at a busy community mental health agency for about five years, gaining significant clinical experience and a close call with burnout. But I also gained clarity about what kind of counselor I want to be, who I most want to help, who I’m most helpful to, and what I need to do to fulfill my calling while balancing life with my three teenagers and many pets.
I’m passionate about providing counseling to people are struggling to find access to mental health services that work for their situations, circumstances, schedules, and location. If it’s hard to get counseling due to lack of services in your area, or it’s difficult to leave home due to chronic pain, chronic illness, or disability, or you can’t take time off work to get to appointments, then I have a soft spot in my heart for you. And if you’re also struggling with finding a sense of purpose and direction in your life, and you often feel empty or alone or stressed out or stuck or like you’re “falling behind” in life, then maybe we should talk sometime. (Check out the Online Counseling page when you’re ready.)
I value compassion, empowerment, love, acceptance, play, laughter, mindfulness, gratitude, commitment, and resilience. And books, cats, music, genealogy, science, diversity, and naps. And of course, my family, my friends, and myself. And you.
Feel free to email me anytime at email@example.com – I’d love to hear from you!
